The Vintage 2.5 Challenge is Back!

That's right the Vintage 2.5 Challenge Series has returned and looks to be bigger and better than ever. As with our original Vintage 2.5 Challenge series, we will be offered our own group by HSR-West when our participation equals the first Vintage 2.5 series. If history is any indicator, we should be in our own group very quickly!
Much as the original intent of the first version of the series our focus will be on the statement found in the first paragraph of the rules; "While close competition is desired, this series will be conducted in the true spirit of vintage racing with emphasis on period correct cars, safety, courtesy and fun.".
We have launched an all-new website with the sole focus of supporting the Vintage 2.5 series. There is still some work left on the site to include a number of interactive features like the “my race schedule” section.
Members Need to Register (again)
With all of the time that has passed since the series was last active we are asking all members that wish to participate in the series or that wish to be associated with the series re-register via the “Members” link. This link will become active on February 20th, 2008.
Our older site used e-Mail and manual transcription of member information which was error prone. This site is designed to retain all of our data in databases on the web server and over time will become much more interactive.
More Class Than Ever
One of the real weaknesses of the first Vintage 2.5 series was the use of a single class for all cars. While this was the approach for the original T/A series it is not a realistic approach in Vintage racing today as many of our members also participate with other organizations that have more restrictive rules. This led to a wide gap in performance and to a great deal of disenchantment which had the outcome of reduced participation. To address this we have defined a number of classes within the 2.5 Challenge Series that should provide more competitive racing for everyone.
While we will all be in the same group you will compete against cars that are more closely aligned with yours.

Rule and Points Changes
For the most part the rules and points structure remain the same but there are a few changes. Points are scaled back for small fields but not eliminated and the complex moving scale proposed last year has been dropped for a simpler method. Also points are accumulated by class within our group.
The only real rule change has been the addition of rule 3.D. which addresses illegal motors or performance related parts. Please review the rules and points method on the Rules link of the website. Note that we also have PDF copies of the rules if you wish to print a copy.

2008 Schedule
Our schedule for 2008 will be been posted on the new site however the news is that we will participate in seven HSR-West events beginning with the March event at Willow Springs on March 8-9.
VSRG Stuff!
We are working on a full line of VSRG merchandise that will include both golf and t-shirts, Vintage 2.5 stickers for your car and our exclusive Vintage 2.5 Challenge brass rollbar tag (similar to the original T/A tags).
