MagnaFlow Vintage 2.5 Challenge

We hope everyone had a great holiday season and hope that Santa included lot's of gofast parts for your car!  There is a lot of stuff going on as we approach our first race of the series however most of it is not "newsworthy" so this months e-News is a little on the short side.

The Points Method has been developed for the series based on the points method for the original 2.5 Challenge.

1st - 9 points
2nd - 6
3rd - 4
4th - 3
5th - 2
6th - 1

Additionally 1 point will be awarded for the pole winner for the final flag race of the weekend and 1 point will also be awarded to each finisher of the final flag race of the weekend.

Rule Updates:  Inserted a new entry at 6.E.19 regarding transmissions which reads;

19. Any transmission rations may be used in the standard or recognized optional transmission.  The number and direction of gears shall not be changed.  Reverse must be retained and remain operational.

Inserted a new section (I.) Brakes.  This was part of the original rules but was accidentally dropped when added to the web site.  The section reads;

Brakes

1. The use of any dual master cylinder and/or pressure equalizing device is premitted.

2. Servo-assist systems are free.

3. Backing plates or dirt shields may be ventilated or removed.  Brake air ducts may be fitted provided they extend in a forward direction only and no changes are made in the coachwork.  Rear brake ducts may extend a maximum of 24 inches from the disc or drum.

4. The handbrake may be partially or entirely removed.

5. Any brake lines may  be used.  They may be relocated and given additional protection.

6. Brake discs, calipers and/or drums are free provided; (a) they are mounted in the same location as the standard brakes and (b) any changes involving the brakes, calipers, rotors or disc/drum configuration must be period correct.  Supporting documentation will be required for changes.

VSRG is not just for West Coast people!  It's true that the 2001 series will run on the west coast however we do anticipate there will be VSRG races and possibly "Divisional" 2.5 Challenge races in other areas of the country.  Although our plans for "spreading out" were for 2002, we have had some opportunity to participate in other areas of the country during 2001.  The way that we determine where we can support races is by our membership for that area so it is very important that you join VSRG no matter where you live.

VSRG will participate in a "Press Day" that is being held by MagnaFlow in January.  We will have 3 racecars on display along with press materials to hand out.  The invitation list of automotive press writers is quite extensive so there is a good chance you might see a few more writeups about the series in the next few months.

Reminders from prior Newsletters

MagnaFlow has announced an incredible free offer to VSRG members that compete in the 2001 race series.  Their statement reads as follows:

MagnaFlow will make available to VSRG members, mufflers and exhaust pipes from its inventory of cataloged parts at no cost .  The free parts will be provided to those members that are planning to enter their racecar in the 2001 race series.  To qualify, proof of the following is required:

o        Current VSRG membership (VSRG will provide this directly to MagnaFlow).

o        Photos (photocopy OK) of the racecar and a brief description (make/model/history).

o        Photos and driver info can be posted on the MagnaFlow website, if actual photos are provided and if consent is granted.

While this is a great offer for VSRG members, it gets even better!  MagnaFlow even adds free installation and dyno runs to this offer!  That's right, free muffler, free tailpipe, free muffler installation and free horsepower testing on your racecar using MagnaFlow's state of the art chassis dynamometer.

Installation and dyno runs are available on a limited basis at the Magnaflow Product Development Center in Rancho Santa Margarita, California.  To take advantage of this offer you will need to make an appointment .  For further information, please contact Peter Nitoglia by e-mail at muffler@mangaflow.com or call him at 949-858-5900.

The VSRG Photo Page has moved into the top 5 of pages viewed on the BSedan.Com and VSRG web sites. This is really quite amazing that so much interest has been shown in the photo section in the first full month that it was on-line.  We only have a few photos so we are asking again for car & driver photos as well as car and driver profiles and we would like a lot more.

 To save you some duplication of effort, we will forward your information and images to MagnaFlow for the free product requirements (above).  We can accept any common graphic image format if you already have scanned or digital images available.  Please send your photos as an attachment to an e-mail if possible.  Regular photos can be mailed to us however unless you send a stamped return envelope we will not be able to return them.

Driver Profiles are still needed.  We ask that you e-mail us your information.  None of this is required and you may elect not to submit any information or omit anything you do not wish to be published.

FIA Homologation and SCCA Recognition Forms are almost if not completely impossible to find.  We are in the process of adding a new section to the BSedan.Com website that will contain scanned copies of SCCA Recognition Forms and FIA Homologation Forms so that we can preserve this important part of our racing history.  We ask that anyone with such a form for any B-Sedan car (1966 through 1972) please e-mail, fax or snail-mail us a copy so that we can share it with other enthusiast.  The Contacts page contains all of our address info.
